I posted in August that my husband has chronosis of his jaw cause caused by radiotherapy 3 years ago.

last week his consultant agreed to a referral to Vinod Patel at Guys which you nice people told me about.

my husband is so low and is in so much pain. He is waiting for an appointment to tackle pain management. I feel so helpless. He cannot see a way forward but I am trying to be positive and hope we do not have to wait too long to see Mr Patel.

  • Hi again. I’m so glad you’re getting the referral. Your husband really shouldn’t be in so much pain. His team need to get on top of it. What is he taking?

  • He is on oromorph, gabapentin and trammadol

  • Maybe ask for something else. Quite a few people with severe pain have oxycodone or fentanyl. It’s worth asking for a different approach.

  • Hi MilosMum

I am glad your husband has got a referral at Guys hospital for the problem with his jaw and hope they can help. I mentioned to you that I have been diagnosed with ORN earlier this year and I am on the pentoxyfilline and Vit E protocol to at the very least to stablise things for me in my case. My  diagnosis  was confirmed on MRI. The infection in my mouth  which was related to this  diagnosis was very painful and I  was on antibiotics to help clear this up.  Then I went on the Pentoxyfilline and vit E.  My pain  for me now at the moment  is a dull dragging ache as my infection is under control for now.  I can manage on paracetamol. I do have to be very careful with things, concerning my jaw and find things limiting  and I am very tired, but for now my pain is stable so I am holding on to this.

I am so sorry for the level of pain your husband is having and hope the pain management team can help further.  My heart goes out to you both.

  • Thanks Nicky, Paul has gad a number of infections and had antibiotics.
unfortunately his team don’t seem very proactive.
Glad your pain has been reduced.
    keep on fighting xx

  • Hi MilosMum

Another other thing which was found  after all this started was -  I had oral thrush. This was found when my mouth was swabbed. I have been on meds for this and this has helped as this can be painful. It is taking its time to clear but I am in a much better place with this too.

Some seem to abandon you when the cancers gone. I’m glad you’re being seen at Guys. Fingers crossed for that.
