Hi everyone
im 5 months since radiotherapy and 9 m after surgery. Just wondering how often everyone gets followed up in the first year? I was told id be seen every 6 weeks for the first year, 8 weeks 2nd year, 10 weeks 3rd year and so on, told be seen for 10 years.
anyway, ive been seen once in june. Had an appointment booked for next week but its been cancelled with a note to say ive been placed on a waiting list.
i don’t want to cause a fuss as he is clearly very busy and he covers more than one hospital and obviously new cancer patients come first or people who are having relapses. However, i still have a number of problems i would have liked to get reviewed obviously.
Whats others experience?
i sort of wonder, have i been cancelled by the specialist as im not a priority or by the clinic admin team who may not know peoples individual history? if that makes sense?
thanks

Hi Elaine I was seen every 6-8 weeks first year then years 2-3 every 3 month years 3-5 every 6 months. Please ring I had same in year 2 I was demoted to general ent by sone bean counter and told 37 weeks wait. Umm I don’t think so. I immediately contacted my cancer nurse who was dismayed to hear that.needless ti say I got an appointment the following week. We do understand that they are busy busy especially in first year you need to be seen and like you Saar you’ve question s ti be asked. Apart from that how are you ?
m There are some who are doing trial with apps about reducing how often we are seen. But you aren’t in that program so you need to be proactive sadly.

Hi Hazel
thank you, ill call them tomorrow.
im ok, due to start back at work very soon.
in constant pain in my neck and get increased amounts of pain in jaw, neck after activity and speech. Swallowing is difficult but im maintaining my weight. I remain deaf in one ear and have constant tinnitus . All i seem to do is moan! I do my exercises but i must say ive not seen any improvement in past few weeks tbh. Nervous about going back to work as i sit at a desk and talk all day, both of which cause a lot of discomfort but have to get on with it. Thanks for asking!
how are you? Xx
Hi Elaine.
You are entitled to be seen as per NICE regs. Intervals do vary from centre to centre but frequent review is the norm for the first two years.
You have just slipped through admin somehow. I doubt very much this is intentional so get in touch with your CNS.

Hi Elaine
Yes it is good that you phone up and discuss your issues so hopefully you can get your follow up appointment sooner. You are not making a fuss. I can understand how you must feel now that it has been delayed. If I remember correctly I was seen both by the oncologist and consultant every 2 months for the first year.
Best wishes
NIcky
Thanks Nicky
i was discharged from oncologist about 4 weeks post radiotherapy but yeah ill call them x
