Hi its me again. I had the Pet-Ct on Thursday and two biopsies were taken from my neck lump on Friday. The radiographer said the lump is very large and it appears to be a lymph node that has become necrotic. There may not have been enough cells iin the stuff she took out to give a diagnosis. After the MDT on Wednesday she said it may mean more surgery. I Ann booked in for throat biopsies on Tuesday. To say I am worried is not worth mentioning anymore. My cough has got worse and I easily become breathless when I walk my dogs. I find I am keeping symptoms from my nearest because I don't want to worry them and we are clinging onto the happiness of my wedding next month. Has anybody else had this necrosis in lymph nodes and what does it mean. Thanks. Jen x
Hi Jen. The PET you had will give a definitive answer. Do you have your appointment through to discuss that?
If a lymph node has become necrotic in the middle it means the cancer there has outgrown its blood supply so it dies. But there are various other benign entities that cause lymph node necrosis. Fingers crossed the PET results are good

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
It’s heartbreaking the wait. We all have to get used to it but it doesn’t make it any better
But give your hospital a ring and see if somebody can explain it
It’s easy to get overwhelmed and not ask at the time but they should know that and help you out

Hi Jen. Danis has explained the necrosis I did have several necrotic lymph nodes, but I already had been told from fine needle biopsy that I had SCC cancer. It no use saying don’t worry sadly this time the waiting game is enough to drive us mad. Maybe try to ring tomorrow your consultants secretary. If you’re unlucky enough to join us in the cancer roundabout we’re all here to help. As an indicator i was a good 6 weeks from diagnostic to treatment starting. So finger and toes x you don’t need us.If you do we’re all here to help.
