Posting for my husband  - Feb '22 - Late diagnosed T4N3M0 SCC tumour of Hypopharynx - Surgery, Chemo or full radiotherapy not an option.

I thought I'd update on my husband's condition. From what was such a dire prognosis of just a few weeks/few months to live back in February ...we now have hope of being together a little longer!

He had 2 sessions of Palliative Radiotherapy March & April that shrunk the tumour a little bit without causing another catastrophic bleed ( it's surrounding his right carotid artery) or major side effects.  It was hoped this would give him a few more months...the summer at least.

Now after all the tests he has been able to have a first infusion of Pembrolizumab today  and we hope this immunotherapy will give us longer  - 56 years together so far! Sessions booked every six weeks into January 2023...hopeful!

Up until now he has remained looking and feeling well ( apart from the initial bleed & trip to ICU/ diagnosis).... he has a slight neck swelling, mucous build up and occasional choking. Eating drinking normally.

So ....The first infusion went well with no adverse reaction and we will wait to see if he has side effects. Patient as normal as can be.....if he turns green when he's angry Rage I'll let you know  (:

  • Hi Myndd Thank you for such  a positive update. I remember your post of earlier. Pleased Pembrolizumab is having a positive effect. Everything x for both if you.

That’s excellent news. Fingers crossed everything continues well. Do you know when he is having a scan to monitor response?

  • Hi .....No scan date yet....phone update with oncologist before next September infusion and we go from there. Ever hopeful though.

  • Hi there, may I ask where his cancer spread to? My dad is also stage 4 tonsil cancer and is being offered immunotherapy. He also looks totally well! Radiotherapy was never mentioned as an option to us? Confused on what the best treatment is…

    lovely to hear positive stories
