Second opinion?!

Has anyone here, after diagnosis and prior to treatment, sought a second opinion from another oncologist etc? And if so how easy was it to get access to all your test results etc for forwarding to the new consultant? Thanks in advance for any info.

  • There is a lady here who sought a second opinion for her husband. Doctors are used to second opinions so there should be no problem with any sharing of data.

I'll see if I can find the post

  • Hi Tony.  If you want a second opinion, get it.  I saw 4 consultants before settling for the Marsden.  Lizzie

  • You are entitled to all the information your hospital holds about you (with very few exceptions).  Generally your hospital will have no problems with packing you off to a second opinion with that information, but if they do then the magic words are "Subject Access".  That may take a little while to be fulfilled, but I would be surprised if the hospital did not get the pack together for you as soon as they know you are asking for a second opinion.  Just remember that it may be your other consultant may wish to undertake their own diagnostics to support their opinion.

  • I’m also looking for a second opinion as I’m not being offered surgery even though it was suggested at the start of my treatment, the CNS nurse told me that I just have to ask for the info
