Hi
Am at the end of week 15 post treatment. In the evenings & when I go to bed I’m experiencing bad heartburn. It stops me getting to sleep, is very uncomfortable & becoming a daily occurrence. Any advice please? Anyone on meds for this?
Thanks everyone x
Very common, I've been on Omeprazole/Lanzoprazole for years, sure if you ask you'll get given them.
In the meantime just get yourself some Rennies; it's a horrid thing to deal with and you shouldn't have to.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Hi,
I had the same and it was affecting my vocal chords.
I have a Lansoperazol on a morning, sleep propped up on 4 pillows (slept flat before this whole thing) and I have 10 ml gaviscon before bed. This has all made a great improvement.
Hope you gind something that works.
Gill
Hi Blod
I had alot of heartburn/acid reflux when I was having alot of dairy food in combination with milk based nutritional shakes. Lanzoprazole cured it. Since I've been having a more varied diet, even though still mostly a soft diet, the heartburn has gone and I don't need Lanzoprazole anymore
Hope you get it sorted because it's horrible
Thank you. I have a Scandishake a day plus whatever I can manage to eat. Not a very varied diet yet. How far past treatment are you?
Hi, I'm nearly 9 months post treatment. Getting back to eating has been slow for me. I still struggle to swallow alot of things. But, it's all going in the right direction. Just frustrating.
Recovery is certainly a full time job. I struggle with a lot of foods, not having much of a varied diet at all. Savoury foods are the most tricky. Also I have very little appetite plus a salty taste in my mouth much of the time. How’s your tiredness level? I could sleep every afternoon the fatigue is overwhelming.
It does feel like it's full time and as though you're making very little progress. I could only manage a small amount of yoghurt at 15/16 weeks. I was living on Fortisips really. I only started being able to eat more a couple of months ago but even now food can get stuck in my throat if its too lumpy or I haven't chewed it enough. Progress is slow, but at least it's progress!
I was very tired and falling asleep in the afternoons until about month 5. Alot of it was due to pain killers (fentanyly and oxycodone). I stopped having oxycodone during the day and that was better. Once I was off the fentanyl my fatigue improved very quickly.
I hope you feel better soon. Fatigue limits the things you can do and stops you feeling normal.
