Hi everyone, what creams did you use during radiotherapy and did you start using it before treatment too ? Oncologist suggested Aveno but I’ve heard someone mention Aloe Vera gel , what’s worked for you ?

  • I was given Doublebase which worked well for meThumbsup

Was slightly taken aback that when I finished my first tube and asked for another they told me they could only fund the one and I'd have to provide my own. seemed very bizarre that they could spend however many hundreds/thousands on my treatment but a £5 tube of cream wasn't permitted.

I used Aveno and have continued too even though my treatment finished on the 11 Mar 22. During my treatments I used a cream called Moo Goo, you can buy it off Amazon. But be careful with Moo Goo, it’s very thick! But really rehydrates the skin.

I found the flamigel they gave me gave off a medical smell that made me feel ill, sounds daft I know.

  • Yes thank you xx

I used the daily moisturiser Aveeno and also the baby body wash Aveeno for when I have a shower. The baby one has no added rubbish so shouldn’t hurt when used.

The nurses and doctors never told me to use Moo Goo or the baby Aveeno, that was someone my wife spoke too and my Aunty mentioned them as she was an oncology nurse.

The moisturisers really make a difference though. Stopped my skin from splitting. You just need to get into a routine when you use them.

  • Thank you I was looking at the baby Aveno too x

  • My wife put Aloe Vera gel on my neck after each treatment. (not before). At the end of my radiotherapy,  the team gave us Flamazine, for my neck, it worked wonders.

    Regards Ray.
