Cetraben during treatment. I was given Diprobase but that was too greasy. Now use Aveeno before bed and factor 50 in the day

  • Hi Birchy

I got Diprobase and Bioxtra from the hospital then Cetraben from my GP. I picked up a tip from a sis-in-law who had RT for breast cancer to use aloe vera gel. Amazon sell the pure stuff fairly cheaply. I put liberal amounts of it on my neck straight after treatment and I'm sure that helped my neck burn very little. Stay away from E45. It has alcohol in it.

Your team will tell you not to put anything on your neck before you get RT but afterwards is fine.

If you get cracked lips you need something without petroleum jelly in it. I'm a beekeeper and I make my own lip balm to which I added some healing essential oils so I was okay. I would be really happy to send you some of mine. I put it in little jars which you can have in your pocket to keep it nice and soft.  A few folk on here have had some. Also BeeInspired make a nice selection. I can vouch for them rather than something like Burts Bees as I've tested a few pre production. Just click on the link in red.

  • Hi Birchy

I used Cetraben on my neck which I already had.  Do just check with your team before you use anything and only apply it after each treatment, not before.

I was prescribed Endokay mouthwash to use at night.  It's quite strong so I've always had to water it down slightly.  Also Duraphat toothpaste.  Biotene mouthwash to use at any time to help moisturise the inside of the mouth and I've found it helps keep my mouth feeling fresh.  I still get all of these on presciption - I finished treatment in August 2018.  Stingent mouth care will be an ongoing thing.
