Hi I had my right tonsil removed 6 weeks ago where they found a small tumor . Started radio treatment Monday 21st with first of 2 Chemo treatments same day. My uvula seems to have changed shape somewhat resulting in the lower tip constantly touching my tongue base . This is both annoying and unpleasant decreasing my feeling of wellbeing .
Has anyone else experienced this please ? And what did you do if you did please to resolve this assuming you were able to? Thanks John ( 55 and otherwise very healthy ) non smoker .
Hi John. I’m 3.5 years post radiotherapy and chemotherapy for tonsil cancer. If it’s any help my uvula disintegrated all together by the end of treatment it melted away. Best advise I can think if is mention it to your team you're only a week into treatment maybe they can arrange for oncologist or consultant to have a look especially if it’s effecting how yiu feel, as from now on treatment does get progressively harder.
let us know what they say ,to be hinest I didn’t even know mine had melted until well after treatment had finished.

Hi John Nothing major as I said I didn’t even know it had gone ! My consultant says I won’t be able to snore but my husband disagrees with that one !
i can’t yodel apparently not that I could before and for a while I couldn’t whistle.
In the early days I had ti drink water or a Luke warm drink ti help food go down but that common with it without uvula.
Good luck with treatment any questions just ask one of us will always get back to you.

Hi John. RT reduced my uvula to a stump. Uvulectomy used to be a surgical cure for snoring. I manage to snore even without one and with my mouth closed alas.
Your uvula is used to help close off your airway when you swallow but missing one hasn’t bothered me.
