Please can someone explain this a bit

, I have a lot of white streaky skin at the very back of throat behind the tonsils, its been there for years and doesnt lift off if i poke or prod it.

I went to my gp once , who just gave me anti fungal solution called nystatin even though i know its not thrush.

Its not tonsil stones because i get those sometimes and i can flush those away.

also i seem to have a bad taste in my throat.

any ideas on what to do ?

  • Hi Truddles and welcome. I can’t help with a diagnosis I’m afraid. If you are worried about it it’s best to approach your GP for an ENT referral. As for the bad taste, could you have reflux?

  • Good evening truddles, i agree with Dani with going to see your GP for a referral to see an ENT consultant. It could also be an infection so needs looking at, antiseptic mouthwash could also help kill any germs etc. I would not keep prodding the area as it you could be making matters worse infection wise. I hope you manage to get some answers, take care.

  • Hi Truddles

I have had lichen planus since my mid  forties so have a bit of experience with it.

White streaks don’t necessarily mean lichen planus so you definitely need to get a diagnosis from a professional. With me I used to have flare ups which made my mouth sore, eating difficult and would only settle with the use of a steroid ointment made especially for the mouth.

My GP was unable to diagnose the lichen planus initially and said it was thrush. I then went through all the thrush treatments but it didn’t improve. It was only when I was referred to a specialist that they got to the bottom of things.

Don’t jump the gun as I said before white streaks in the mouth can have many other explanations.

Good luck with getting the info you need.

    Best wishes

    Lyn
