Mucositis

Hi Wendy...It seems a bit cruel to get over the worst of the RT mucositis to be double hit with the chemo. I think Chemo ulcers ar a bit different to RT ones? Ami right?

Ice lollies are supposed to be good and oral gels like gelclair. Oxetecaine should help as well. Keeping your mouth clean is critical to stop infection. Ask your team if they have access to photobiomodulation. This low level laser therapy. Some centres are trialling it and it's supposed to work wonders.

Chemo ulcers heal in a shorter time than RT ones but I suppose you are onto the next cycle by then. Poor you. Hugs

I had a sore mouth with cistplatin a radiotherapy but these ulcers from 5fu is another level

Hi Wopsan, that sounds very familiar, i had cisplatin as well but not 5fu.

All i can advise is lots of pain relief (i had oramorph with fentanyl) and spray lots of difflam between sips of liquid when trying to swallow. Difflam helps only for a short period of time but it definitely helps get things down.

As mentioned dental hygeine is vital, i still got a yeast infection despite that however so keep an eye out for that,.

Hi. I didn't have the same treatment as you (Carboplatin, 2x chemo and 30 radio) but, I did get a couple of ulcers and my local chemist told me to stay away from Bonjela. All the best.

Difflam stings too much as my mouth is covered in ulcers swollen can hardly speak

   Hi have you been prescribed gelclair I had chemo radiation and was plagued with ulcers. I used to dilute it with water. . Plus rinse inbetween with lukewarm water mix of 1 litre Luke warn 1 teaspoon sea salt 1 teaspoon baking powder it hurt like heck but gave some relief in a strange way. There’s also a product you can buy  Aloclair I found that helped. Plus are yiu using zero alchil mouth washes I used bioxtra again diluted in early days. I still use that now xx are yiu using a nebuliser ? Yiu can use plain boiled water instead if saline solution s. It’s hard I had them for at least 12 weeks .hugs Hazel 

Hi Hazel yes taking gelclair and oxetacaine underneath my whole tongue is ulcerated and my lips are raw

Does nebulizer help for mucositis??
