Hi all, did anyone else find themselves being sick daily due to the mucus that builds in the mouth and stomach? I’ve just completed my 30 radiotherapy treatments yesterday and since Wednesday I have been sick every day, always later in the afternoon or early evening. My Macmillan nurse said to keep sipping constantly, which I do. But it still happens. Has anyone else experienced this and is there anything that can help, other than sipping, and a humidifier (which I have)? I know you get sweets and medicine for mucus but I’m guessing they’re only for colds etc.
Thanks in advance!
Hi. Sorry I can't see your name !
This bit is horrible. You have my sympathy. I spent probably two weeks with an empty water bottle and a box of tissues and spent the time (seemingly) constantly coughing and spitting mucus into the botte and rinsing my mouth out. Its a bit gross for anyone around you but it it does eventually get better.

Hi, great you have finished treatment. For the first few weeks I had awful problems with it, and it did make me feel sick at times.
Many of us use humidifiers over night and steam throughout the day. Keeping hydrated helps. I ended up using a nasal douche too, which really helped clear it out. About £20 from Amazon, including the salts. Still use now when I get a cold. Might want to check with your cns so they know what is safe in your case.
Hope you find relief, it's awful.

Hi Annie welcome to our small forum. Well done on completing treatment snd welcome to recovery. Yes mid is very common all you can do his keep hydrated and copious amounts of tissues plus spitting out not pleasant but it’s routine. It will go as quickly as it came often ti be replaced. By dry mouth. The decongestant s won’t work as it’s radiotherapy that caused damage to our mucosal linings. There’s something called carbusistine I had it after about 6 weeks of mucus but can’t say it really helped.
I nebulised at least 6 times a day alternating heteeen saline and plain boiled water. Plus a humidifier in bedroom every night.
Good luck hope it helps.

Hazel, thank you for your advice! I have ordered a nebuliser to go with my humidifier so fingers crossed.
Hi Annie You’re welcome remember never use essential oils in either nebuliser or humidifier. Just plain boiled water cooled or saline in nebuliser. Keep spitting and sipping it doesn’t last forever just seems like it.
