Hi Sorry I can’t help I had tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes but no metastasis spread. Your friend needs to ask his or her team and oncologist.

Hi and welcome. I can’t recall anybody here with abdominal metastatic spread of their laryngeal cancer. Your friend should be guided by their oncologist. Whereabouts do you live?

Hi- Welcome- I have had a Laryngectomy which is the voicebox removal, that was just over 12 months ago and everything has been fine until my last scan and I have now been referred for further tests as they ahve found a problem with my food pipe so am now starting anew journey of Cancer treatment. I have been told and also on other forums here that the most common treatment will be Chemo/RT, it's the RT that frightens me totally just feel it is so barbaric
Still waiting to see what the team at St Lukes Guildford are going to advise, but I have my wonderful MacMillan Speach Therapists supporting me all the way

I am afraid I dont understand this. I understand this metastatic has to come from somewhere. I am not sure how you tell it is that unless it comes from a similar cancer. So the hospital ought to know where it came from. It didnt spread from its origin where did it spread from. May we also ask what treatment he had for his voice box. I had an operation RT and Chemo
Hi Tony. Don’t be scared if the chemo radiotherapy I did it. I’m a self confessed wink but I got through 35 radiotherapy sessions and 2 x10 hour chemotherapy. Now 3 years post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes. If we can help just shout out. It’s not easy but it’s doable.

Thanks Hazel I know you all are, I refused RT after the Laryngectomy and at my appointment with my Consultant she said a good job as the next treatment would have been limited if I had had RT- makes you wonder !
Hope this time to keep a log of my journey - if anything to try and help others

Kasvin I was brought up in Guildford (lived there from1962-1985) and well remember the original St Lukes hospital. I did things the other way round and had RT in 2014 and the laryngectomy last year and you're quite right I think, best to leave something as back-up when RT is a one time only option. It is, as you say, pretty barbaric, but has a good success rate. Good luck with it.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Thankyou Mike, I have now received my date for the Pet Scan next week so on the journey now, meeting a Cancer Nurse today at our local Health Centre in Aldershot for a 'chat' so wait and see what that does, my 4 Mac Millan Speach Therapists are on my case as well so I am well looked after

Sounds good Tony, the kind of perverse "upside" to getting cancer is that you do meet some incredible people who you'd otherwise probably not. I've formed some incredibly close relationships with people in the last eight years, both professionals and fellow patients.
