My dad had surgery for tongue tonsil and neck cancer they think they got it all but hes still in icu been 4 weeks now is this normal his oxygen and blood levels are low too

  • Hi LOzza13 and welcome.  I would say that it is not usual from experiences posted here and my own.  There may be other complications that they are dealing with.  ICU sounds scary, but he will be getting the best treatment possible.  Best advice is to speak to his clinical teams to understand what else is going on.

Thank you i know he has a tube to help him breathe ill see the clinical team see whats going on

  • Hi Lozza

I was in ICU after tonsil snd tongue surgery, because I was running a high temperature, and needed fluids. Sounds scary but he is in the best place. Talk to the medical team so they can explain why he is in there. Welcome to the group

Ah right thank you for reply it is rather scary him being in so long and even if he gets moved to ward we got told he could be in for months its making me think they arent telling us everything

  • Speak to them, ask for a complete run down of his operation, his recovery, and why he could be in so long. You are bound to be worried if you are not in full command of all the information
