Hello all,
I am doing really well at the mo I'm pleased to say. Have had both CIstplatin doses and today had no. 22 out of 30 RT. Always feel better when the worst of the chemo has worn off.
No real problems so far, just that almost overnight I have developed really sore, swollen and blistered lips. Could give Katie Price on full fillers a run for her money at the mo !
I did mention it at RT today, they advised me to be very careful with products because of the risk of adverse reactions from the RT. Suggested perhaps a bit of Aveeno cica balm (which I use on my neck) around the edges overnight. Just wondering if anyone has any experince of this or can suggest anything else? Not that I am not listening to them or do not think they have knowledge but a bit more specialised on here!
Many thanks in advance,
Julie
Hi Julie well done on progress so far. Yes try the suggestion but remember nothing petroleum jelly based on lips. Don’t use most lip balms and never before treatment it can cook. I used burts bees honey based lip balms but onky after treatment.

Unfortunately sores have got much worse and my temp went to 37.9 however much I tried to ignore it!
Currently in MAU drinking hot chocolate through a straw wondering how 3am is not 6am as I'm wide awake and body clock is out of whack.
Have just been given a tube of daktarin gel which I would kiss if my lips weren't so sore.
Am now starting to understand all the conversations about how vile oral thrush is :-(
Hopefully some ok blood test results and the pre-emptive antibiotics will see me going home in the morning.
Never a dull moment!!
Oh you poor thing. Hope they let you home soon If you have thrush Daktarin in is no good. You need Fluconazole.
PM me your address and I’ll send you some lip balm. All organic and wax from my bees.

Thanks Dani,
Just arrived on the oncology ward, she said exactly the same thing!! They are being very thorough because of the temp but she said they might even keep me in tonight because of the state of my mouth!!
Will do the address thank you very much x
Hi Julie Dani’s said it daktarin or nystatin doesn’t work onky flucozonole I had several bouts of oral thrush . Radiation oral thrush doesn’t resound to those. Good luck let us know how you get on.

Home from hospital - yay!
Discharge letter has me down for grade 3 mucositis. Consultant didn't think it was thrush this morning. Discharge letter says I have been given Difflam and gelclair. I can see the gelclair, I'm presuming Benzydamine Hydrochloride is non brand Difflam? Hopefully they will help anyway. Not going to bother using the Daktarin.
No raised CRP level and white bllod cell count OK so no sign of infection. My temperature seems to be a law unto itself. Did read an interesting study about a certain percentage of chemo patients who have low grade fever after chemo for no reason, especially when they are also having radiotherapy. Guess I must just fall into that category!
Gelclair is good you can dilute it I used it through treatment snd still have it in for those just in case day’s. Yes same as difflam .
the gelclair can sting. Unfortunately mucosal issues are a major side effect.
glad you are home
