Hii

  • Hello again Amy. Things do differ and not everybody is the same as you say but roughly I would say the first two or three weeks after treatment has finished are probably the worst. I would expect your dad to be on a lot of pain  killers and to spend a lot of time sleeping. That’s what I did and so did a lot of people here going through the same sort of treatment. By six weeks I was turning the corner eating soft food and scaling down the analgesia and 12 weeks was a real turning point, my eating was more adventurous, pain much better and I was feeling more independent of my husbands care.
My appointments were six weekly till I had a PET scan to check if treatment had worked. Mine was at 16 weeks. Some are at 12.
    I hope this helps.

  • Hi Amy

    • Well done  to your Dad and  you for getting this far. Can’t add anything to what Dani has put except if you can get him to walk round garden or just out on street once a day a little light exercise really can help nothing strenuous just a 100 yards or so. You are right in we are  all different . After treatment I saw oncologist at 6 weekly interval s my final pet ct scan was at  18 weeks 12-16 weeks us usual then results around 10 days after. For first year I was seen every 8-10 weeks. With covid that could be less for your dad but you will have access to a number hopefully. Remember make sure you’ve enough pain medication as once you are at g p they aren’t always efficient!
      Good luck

  • Hi Amy

I have to agree that the 2 to 4 weeks after the treatment ends were tough...it took me about 5 months before I started to see a big improvement...but when I did things improved very quickly.

Just take things a day at a time...
