Went for pet scan results today for husband 4 months post chemo/ radio for throat cancer, no results in yet but consultant put a camera down his throat and thinks it all looks good . I told her to check my husband’s armpit because I noticed a lump , she says it’s abnormal and is sending him for ultrasound/ biopsy ? But as she is ent doc if there is anything sinister in his armpit that’s not her area and this is something else, unconnected to throat , so we have not had the pet scan results for the throat cancer treatment that ended in sep , found a new lump today and my husband has interpreted all this as all clear for cancer , is it just me ?

  • Pity the results weren’t ready. If your ent can’t see anything there probably  isn’t anything there but you really have to check for PET scan. The scan is whole body so will likely pick the axillary lump up if it’s abnormal

    Fingers crossed.

  • Hiya

I agree with dani, they scan your whole body with the pet, so if there was anything suspicious about the armpit lump it will show on the scan

Hope you get your results, and good news very soon.

  • The PET scan will also pick up many types of infections.  It picked up one in my jaw, but the MDT were quite clear that it was an infection and not a cancer.  It may be that the results are delayed so that the appropriate MDT can review the PET so you get a full picture.

  • Hi on my final pet scan after my tonsil treatment it showed a shadow on my prostate...I was then sent for additional tests which showed there wasn't an issue...these things happen so try and stay positive.. good luck
