I had a tumor on my vocal chord which was successfully treated with radiotherapy.
I have suffered from dry throat and sometimes I have sore throats which my doctor says is probably as my throat is still inflamed from the treatment and therefore the sore throats are probably due to heart burn
I recently had a scan, 18 months after treatment and it has spotted an irregularity on my vocal chord and could not rule out the return of the cancer. My doctor says it may be just scaring but obviously I'm worried.
Is it normal that scaring should take place a year and half after treatment. I am a teacher and after class I can feel some pain there.
Is this normal?
Thanks
Hi Lisbon72 and welcome to our little community. We all strive to help and support each other. Sorry you have had to find us.
I have never heard of scarring that late but radiation fibrosis can happen any time.
Have you got a date for further tests?
I hope everything goes well and they find nothing

Good evening Lisbon72, i have had scarirng about a year after my operations and treatment of radio and chemo so it could very well be this.It good that you had this scan as it has picked something up that needs to be checked, again i have been checked for quite a few false alarms as we all become more aware of changes within our mouths etc, Im sure they will do a biopsy first then more scans so they can pinpoint the problem. I know how worried you are as mine did return twice more but on the whole, they are successful the first time around. Let's hope you get an appointment fairly quickly for the biopsy and scan. Fingers crossed its just a bit of scarring, wishing you all the best.

Hi Lisbon42
welcome to our small tight knit community. I am almost 30 month post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes.I can’t comment on your vocal chord but at my last e n t appointment face to face in December prior was last seen February I have the start of radiation fibrosis at the back of my neck one if the tendons , it’s not major have some exercises to do.Unfortunately the area where we are all treated is a delicate area that goes through a pretty brutal experience.
Everything crossed for your next scan,
