I woild like to exchange experiences of, mainly, the after effects of radiotherapy. I am 11 months on from completing a 30 session, 6 week course of radiotherapy and the after effect symptoms are still debilitating and very depressing.

  • I think you will need to tell us more of what your problems are as we all appear to get slightly different symptoms from the treatments

  • Hi Rosebush Sorry to hear of your issues. I think time might be the healer and changing habits and giving your body the best chance possible  to heal itself might help. All the Best Regards Min

  • Hi Rosebush welcome to our small community if you pop back on with your symptoms some of us might be able to make suggestions.
    best wishes Hazel

    Thanks everyone for replying.
I still have ulcers and an extremely sore mouth full of scar tissue. I am on continuous pain relief including Oramorph, codeine and paracetamol, all in liquid form. I can eat mashed food now that I have had 2 sessions of eosophagal dilation but even soft food is painful, exacerbated by severe mucositis and lichen planus.
My right arm and shoulder ( where the lymph nodes were removed) are improving very slowly, as is the side of my head which is still fairly numb from nerve damage.
Lymphoedema will I think continue to be a problem but massage helps.

I forgot to mention my most pressing (and depressing) issue! My consultant wants to, eventually, remove all my teeth - the bottom ones have turned black and are slowly disintegrating. All of my roots have been damaged by radiotherapy. Unfortunately I can't open my mouth very wide because of the scar tissue so dentures will almost certainly be impossible.

  • I have an obturator on the top of my mouth at the frount, I can get that in and it's much bigger than false teeth, when they tried to put my PEG in they couldn't because they couldn't get the thing in my mouth with a hole in it to put the Peg in my stomach (they did it with a small op when doing something else), I have a problem eating some things because my mouth won't open very wide as well so I don't think the teet will be a problem my plate goes right up into my nose so is well bigger than false teeth.
