Thanks everyone for your responses to my last query, I have now got a follow up appointment arranged for my husband , 18 th jan which is 4 months to the day he stopped treatment , no one has seen him in those 4 months . His face dropped when he saw it and I feel bad now going behind his back , I am back to crying and worrying again , which I am so fed up of . It’s hard to stay positive all the time , I always fear the worst and wish I didn’t

  • Hi Curly. That’s an excellent result. Now you just have three weeks to prop him up which I know will be difficult for you but remember there is always Macmillan support line 0808 808 0000 which is open every day 8am to 8pm. A worry shared with a friendly voice is much easier to bear.
It might be worth mentioning that although his doctors want him to stop smoking and drinking they won’t judge him. He needs to have a face to face consultation  so that they can check progress and discuss post treatment monitoring whether it’s a PET/CT or an MRI. .
Good luck and let us know how you both get on.

  • Hi Curly whirly. You’ve done the right thing after he’s gone through  the trauma of treatment you both need to know what happens next.About his smoking n drinking handle that after you’ve been seen by the consultant. In these covid times usually it’s patient only I would suggest you  try go in with him.
It’s human nature to worry but without knowing what’s happening you will still be in the same position,

    good luck Hazel x

He says he’s going without me but in the end he won’t , he thinks he can hide his smoking or say it’s less than it is , and he knows I will snitch on him , I am going to try and think positive for a change , I can’t go on feeling sad

  • Hi Curly, glad you have a date now! although i am amazed no-one has seen him for so long? what trust is this?

As for the drinking and smoking, funnily enough i asked my consultant about the risk in having a few beers over xmas as i really wanted to be able to but didnt want to damage my prognosis-- and he said it wouldnt affect my prognosis 'as long as i dont have cigars with it'

So the message i got was a few beers are minimal risk, but smoking a huge no no...obviously heavy intake or spirits might be different.

Is your husband open to trying NRT? They can put him on a really really high dose so he gets every bit as much nicotine, but the risk from the hydrocarbons would be gone.

We are in Glasgow , it’s very strange they never got in touch I just assumed they knew what they were doing , but I chased them up and will bring up the wait with the consultant , since the apt came in he has been talking about reducing his cigarettes again so he knows they will tell him off , he smoked all through his radio and chemo , so I am really worried in case it’s not worked
