Just gone over halfway in my treatment and still okay no side effects, after yesterdays debacle having to wait for 3 hours for the ambulance to take me home. I thought it should be okay today! Well, it started showing promise a volunteer car picked me up, arrived at the hospital to be told the machine I was supposed to be having my treatment with had broken down, so I ended up having to go on a different machine which made my 10 am appointment turn into 11.30 am, that was okay though I am grateful to be having the treatment which may save my life. Now the car that was waiting to take me home had a problem the car wouldn't start the battery was flat so the driver had to get a battery charger and we were off and I arrived home safely.

My treatment days involved a two hour each way drive and on days when I had consults and or blood tests we were often away all day. Good that you have no side effects

  • Good on you Viv stick with it and dont let these things get to you , I felt a bit of nausea for 3 days last week due to not being given pills by the hospital which I got today . Then going to my radiotherapy with my chemo drips and the alarm going off cause I am moving , Gets there and no one knows how to reset it and they send me back to chemo lol All the Best Regards Min

  • Well done in passing the halfway line, i used to look at it as a hill the first bit climbing up the hill the other coming down the other side and seeing the finish line. Yes, today was even more difficult with the snow, etc,in some places. Its not unusual to be moved to a different machine there was always one broken down when i was having the radiotherapy, hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day. Lovely to hear you are not having any side effects crossing my fingers for the second half of treatment, you are doing extremely well Viv, keep up the good work, wishing you all the best, take care.

Thank you all for your comments, I hope I didn't come across as moaning far from it I am very grateful to the staff and the treatment I am receiving. I just found it comical how some things were going wrong.

No, of course you didn't. These units cram in as many people as they can and they have to be serviced often and sometimes things go wrong before they are. I never had a breakdown but I did once have to move to the breast unit while my machine was being serviced. There the pace was frantic. Where we were given time to slip our tops off and get clamped down while the team chatted on the other machine all tops and shoes were off in the waiting room and we were treated in double quick prep time. If they did this they could treat five extra patients a day and that really mattered. It was quite a relief to get back to a more leisurely pace.

  • Well done at the milestone! and i hope symptoms stay mild.

The long waits sound familiar to me, i had quite a few calamities (the most serious being that they discovered they had 'missed a tumour' when i was half way through treatment, it was on the mri but the radiographer missed it...the consultant spotted it when reviewing scans.

I think i was still gaining weight at week 3, then it hit me at the end of week 4, i really hope it doesnt happen for you.

Hi Trev, Thank you for the well done just finished session 9 still okay so lucky I guess. I deliberately put on weight before the treatment started expecting to lose weight, the way it's going I will have to go on a diet once it's all over lol

  • Hi Trev  Sorry not wishing to hijack the thread. I was told yesterday they were going to extend my time in the machine as they need to map or rejoin X-rays or whatever . Then today they said they had to do a longer session again as they couldn't get fully  to the  affected area. This doesn't fill me full of confidence if this is all supposed to be mapped out Thanks Regards Min

  • Relax Min.
That’s the whole point of checking throughout treatment.

Things do change between planning and start of treatment particularly so they have to make adjustments
