Hi Everyone
I was treated for Tonsil Caner Q1 this year - Tonsillectomy then 2 weeks later neck dissection and partial oropharyngeal (March 2020) - I have had 6 weekly check ups since remission. The last week or so I have developed swelling where I had my neck dissection and I am not due for my next check up now until Jan..So wanted to ask if anyone has experienced anything similar - Not a natural worrier and Ive just cracked on with everything.. thinking it could be Lymphoedema?
Thanks for any replies and wishing everyone a happy health Xmas and New Year.
Best wishes
Mags
Hello MSA. Welcome back to our little community.
Good news that you have made such good recovery so far.
Lymph channel scarring can easily occur months after surgery and develops slowly so your diagnosis may well be spot on
I didn't have a neck dissection but did suffer lymphoedema which I massaged away daily. Mine was worse in the morning after a night of immobility. It might be worth giving the hospital a ring if your appointment isn't until the end of January. Lots of hospitals are doing E-consults so you might be able to send a photo
Best regards

Hi MSA welcome back I am 2 years post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes. I was lucky no lymphodema but know it can happen at any time. In first years I’ve not had a face time face since 11 February due to covid have had phone calls. At each call I’ve been reassured if u had any problems or concerns to ring and I would be seen. So like Dani says if it’s late January give them a ring do you have a Macmillan nurse you could ring or email ?
I do get a tightening of my tendons in radiotherapy side especially if I am bent over for any time cooking or baking.
hope this helps

Hi Hazel, I saw my consultant today and he is booking me in for an urgent MRI - hopefully nothing to worry about and just precautionary -
Best wishes and happy New year
Mags :-)
He's just being careful. As you say hopefully it's nothing. Fingers crossed

Hi
I had exactly the same thing, throbbing discomfort in the area where my neck tumour had been and swelling.
It was lymphoedema and my pet scan was clear.
It is always best to get these things checked so i would call the team maybe but your fears are exactly the same as the ones i had.
EDIT just seen your second post, glad he is being careful - hope your results are good and let us know please.
Hi Mags
Its good that he’s being thorough, the mri will guide him in the next step. Just breathe as we all know the waiting is by far the worst.
let us know how you get on fingers x

Good evening Mags, good to know you are getting an urgent MRI especially in these difficult times, hopefully, it is nothing which it proved many times before with other patients, better to be safe rather than sorry. Hope all goes well, take care, and a Happy New Year ,
