Hi everyone
Its been a while since I posted. So finished treatment a year ago for tonsil SCC. Just been for follow up in clinic and on examination my voice box is sluggish - nothing to see or feel but quite unusual. No other changes I've noted. Am being sent for a CT scan. Has anyone had a similar experience? Needless to say I am very worried.
Hi and welcome back. It’s great that you’ve made a good recovery.
I’m not a doctor but I do have a friend who has suffered similarly to you.
Vocal cord palsy is a recognised late side effect of radiotherapy to the throat. It doesn’t have to be to the larynx either. It happens with people who have had RT to the oropharynx. It typically starts after a year but can occur years later.
It might be worth asking if this could be the cause.
