Hello my H and N friends
Started a new thread for this as just need some help today. Not sure what i have done but i am in agony with toothache think i have ground my teeth and possibly cracked one of back molars. Probably a by issue from radiotherapy earlier in the year. Have any of you done something similar and what can i do. Have H and N appt tues and am taking co codamol and oramorph now plus some antibiotics I had left over from last surgery on advice from 111 but this is tipping me over the edge. Am i right in thinking that pulling a tooth after radio is a no no.
Really struggling with this on top of everything else. Any advice would be welcome

Poor Mo. To add to your problems !
Call your team ASAP. This is a dental emergency and yes you can have teeth pulled after RT but it has to be done in hospital. I had a maxillary wisdom tooth pulled after mine and had no problems. You need antibiotics and lots of mouthwash but it’s ok.
I hope you get it sorted.

Hi Mo,
It doesn’t rain but it pours for you at the moment! Sorry you’re in so much pain. I think as for pulling a tooth out you’ll need to get in touch with your cancer hospital dentist. I don’t think your regular dentist would be permitted to do that in case there were any complications.
Ring them first thing and hopefully they’ll book you in as an emergency.
All the best,

Yes im afraid it is a hospital job in case something goes wrong, i have had teeth removed recently again in the hospital despite being signed off 3 years ago, they came out ok so its not a worry just another inconvenience for you, i was going to suggest garlic or cloves but i think your mouth will be to tender at the moment. Good luck with Tuesdays' appointment Mo. Take care.

They are going to get the dentist to have a look tomorrow while i am there for other appointment, so still taking the drugs and my daughter will drive me in one because of the meds and two if they can do anything with it or if they have to pull it. I have always ground my teeth during the night and think i got a bit stressed over all the latest and have cracked a lower molar. Dare not eat so at least i have modulin complete liquid to keep me going. They said they would have to xray teeth again if they are giving more radiotherapy, but got to get the surgery done first. I was crying in pain yesterday, poor hubby didnt know what to do as he has never seen me like that before. Now i have managed to flatten the pain a bit i can manage. Already getting quite bad neuralgia from the damaged facial nerves so it really pushed me over my pain threshold. Thanks for advice I knew i had seen something about dentists after radio and mine still has not opened apart from emergency's but knew there was something about pulling teeth as i think this might be needed.
Love to you all
Mo
