hi all im new to this site. I had a total laryngectomy in early 2002. I had my operation in poole dorset theyb were brilliant as they always are. Im kind of looking for new frikends in the area who have been affected by throat cancer. As ive only met one other larry in dorset there must be more. I was only 37 years old when i had my operation om 55 years old now. Anyway would be nice to meet up with like minded people social distancing of course.

  • Is there a Maggie’s centre near you?
Another place to look is to check out the Swallows group.
Their nearest centre is Worcester but they may be able to point you to a nearer venue.

  • Hi uk zedv headz, i had a total laryngectomy in 2010 and was 50, my operations were done at East Grinstead but my radio/chemo was done in Maidstone and between them used to run a group called "Head Start " and was a get together of other head and neck survivors who like you wanted to meet others. Maybe if you ask at your local hospital , especially the Macmillan area as they might be able to point you in the right direction. Great advice from Dani on the other post as well, another person you could contact is the speech and language therapists as they also have get-togethers, there are groups out it's just finding them. I hope all is well and you find being a laryngectomee not too much of a struggle, I have learned to adapt fairly well. Best wishes, take care.

Hi. My mum has just been diagnosed with larynx cancer in Poole a couple of weeks ago. We’re all still very shocked. Would like to know how you are getting on?

  • Hi Loupy, so sorry to hear this news. It is a shock, to begin with, but once your mum gets a treatment plan it will become a lot clearer. Have they told your mum what their next steps are ? I'm all well and good and live a good quality of life. If you have any questions, concerns or just want a chat then i will do my best to help you and your mum.All the best, take care.
