Dry mouth, anyone used a nebuliser?

Hi everyone

We’ve had a bad few days starting with Ken’s PEG Tube falling out and no one knowing how to put one in for 7 hours!!
Anyway that crisis has now been resolved but Ken is really suffering with a dry mouth. The stringy mucous stuff that was choking him and making him gag has gone, only to be replaced by a mouth as dry as the desert!

Ive found an NHS Trust care leaflet for H&N cancer patients that suggests a nebuliser with saline solution. We’ve never been offered this. Should we ask for one? Who would give us one? Has anyone used one? And if so, does it work?

Also, while I’m here......how do we instigate acupuncture or are we trying to run before we can walk? Ken is just over 4 weeks post 30 radio treatments and 6 chemo sessions.

We have XyliMelts (but he can’t use them right now as there’s no saliva to make it stick) and Caphosol. We also have Glandosane synthetic saliva spray but we were told not to use it due to its acidity and effect on Ken’s remaining teeth. I’ve tested it and it’s PH 5.5. Should he use it? And what about Biotene mouthwash?

As ever, grateful for your thoughts and experiences. Apologies for so many questions. Xx

    Thanks Chris,

On our way over again for my leg dressing. I know some one else who used Aveeno. I am going to put it on when l go to bed and after the radiotherapy. Can only try.

I'm going to wall mount my mask and cover it with flowers, butterflies, frogs and bees  Grin

    Well that's my plan!

  • Aveeno is great. I use it when my lichen planus flares up.

    Hi Dani,

I use the normal one as a body lotion but she told me to get the dry sensitive one. Bought some today and some Sanex zero sensitive shower gel. First time since operation have l been shopping. Glad to say it did me good. I have some lypodema? under my chin, couple of scars where they had to unattatch the cancer, no bottom teeth, scars round my neck but to be honest nobody battered an eyelid. I went and bought two new tops because l have lost weight and l decided l didn't look that bad. Gave me a confidence boost.

    Dani,

I love shopping, clothes, shoes, handbags and makeup.

Not my priority at the moment. Not worn makeup since December. Wear trainers because of my leg, leggings and comfortable shirts or jumpers. Don't forget a pretty scarf

Lol. Slightly off topic but I say what ever cheers you up ,nice one. @Beesuit quite partial to apple stuff myself !!

News on saliva front today I have definitely had moments of a normal mouth plus point , been tidying greenhouse minus water bottle by my side , and tea a rare rib eye with jacket potato and roast vegetables no water or tea during meal either. Mouth feels more thick tonight but as we say baby steps.
