My husband has just been diagnosed with right tonsil cancer with spread into the base of his tongue. He has been offered the possibility of going on a trial where along side the radiotherapy and chemotherapy you are given immunotherapy. I wondered if anyone had experience of this or any comments on it?
I had simply radiotherapy for T2 P16 base of tongue SCC so not quite the same but my reason for replying is that traditionally immunotherapy is offered if the cancer comes back and no other treatment is working BUT the Americans have been looking at it and have been trialling the very same. I think the results are very encouraging to such an extent that some centres are offering it right at the beginning of treatment. I think this is an exciting innovation. I was going to ask my onc consultant about it at my next appointment.
Be guided by what your team advises but I can tell you that had I been offered this I would have jumped at the chance
Good luck
