My husband has larynx cancer I am petrified l. Anh
He has opted for radio rather than remove the voice box. Any advice is much appreciated thank you. Lisa
Good morning Lisa , unfortunately I used all my radiotherapy up after my first operation which was floor of the mouth , so when it returned a year later I had larynx cancer but they would not know how bad until they operated, in the end they removed my voice box ( larynx) If I did not have radio after my first operation I would have done what you husband is doing without a shadow of a doubt. At least having the radio gives a good chance of stopping the cancer and saving the larynx so in a way it gives your dad an extra chance . Please do not be petrified , I know it sounds horrendous but when its broken down its not that bad and if all goes to plan he will still be able to talk . I cannot say what the side affects will be but he might have to have a PEG feeding tube fitted as swallowing could become difficult , he will get a bit tired and fatigued at times but I stress it changes from person to person on what if any side affects they get and this applies to the speed of recovery . Please come back if you need more help or reassurance and we will try and help , best wishes ,take care .
