RiG tube

Hi madaboutmutts, Im trying to work out why you are draining it out after flushing , I flush mine by syringing a syringe full of cold boiled water through it then that's it, if you drain it out you will get the contents of his stomach coming out . Maybe someone can put me straight as I have a PEG  but I thought the RIG works on the same principle , you have got me thinking now as I have never drained mine out after flushing . Sorry I cannot help any further at the moment , all the best ,take care .

Probably not explained it too well. When we take the plug out of the tube the yellow liquid just flows out - we dont drain it intentionally and dont drain it after flushing. The tube is just full of this liquid when we go to flush it with water and it pours out of the end of the tube.

Hi. I probably didn't explain it too well. When we remove the plug at the end of the tube to flush it, the liquid inside the tube flows out before we can attach the syringe to flush through. We dont intentionally drain it!

is there a clamp on the tube? You need to keep this on and closed until you’ve attached the syringe then put the clamp back on before you detach the syringe. I forgot a few times and ended up with a bit of stomach contents on the floor! Reach out to your dietician or nurse specialist if you are unsure.

No we don't have a clamp - thanks for the advice I will get on to them after the weekend. Meanwhile will improvise with a hair clip!!

Just started with rig this week and I was shown by nutricia nurse prior to flushing to kink the pipe, that way very little  leaks prior to you putting syringe or feed etc thru,

Given up with food via mouth,just can't face it with lack of taste,sipping water continuously though, but mouth and throat sore,using gelcair and paracetamol at moment, 

Mornings worst at moment, dry mouth etc but once I'm up gone thru cleaning regime seem to be ok

At least you're hubby still managing some food orally, start week 4 next ,not too tired but definitely feel weaker

I'll try that - thanks.  He just finished week 4. Husband also v v tired and v v fed up! Persevering with soup, yoghurt, eggs and Fortisips orally at the moment - but its hard. He has very bad blisters and on top of that thrush!   Good luck for week four!

Hi madaboutmutts , yes I know exactly what you mean now as it happened to me many a time  , they don't supply one as they say it can affect the balloon tube which is a load of rubbish as I managed to get a clamp of an Abbott nurse ,the nurses who changes the tube , The only way you can stop it for now is to bend it in half to stop the flow , its not the best solution but it will stop the liquid coming out .I must admit I got really angry with getting wet from this non to pleasant smelling liquid so I told my dietician who then passed it onto the Abbott nurse , you might be lucky and the dietician will have one . I also have two plugs that I screw into the end of the tube as the clamp has failed a couple of times again speak to the dietician . Thanks for clarifying it as I was a bit concerned you were doing something wrong, best wishes .

It sure is B ,even after 11 years im still learning , I think the thing what annoys me is that the people who make these and fit them never see the problems we have .
