I was diagnosed with Adenoid cystic carcinoma in my right salivary gland. Had surgery and a high dose of 33 sessions of radiotherapy This was between Dec 2016 and Apr 2017.

I recently found a lump under my tongue and have been struggling to swallow food without having water to wash it down.

Unfortunately my biopsy results showed that the ACC has returned.

Has anyone else had it return and what was your procedure?

I've been told I will need surgery but instead of from the outside, it's going to be from inside my mouth and may involve a skin graft. I'm so scared. Just wanted to know other people's experiences of this sort of surgery.

I've been told no more radiotherapy which I'm relieved about!

Any info will be helpful.

Thank you

Vicki (35 yrs old, Leeds)

  • Hello toriat84, i have not had this sort of cancer but have had surgery inside my mouth when the reconstructed my lower jaw and floor of the mouth. I found that the healing progress was very good and it healed quite quickly, I also had a bit of my tongue removed where the floor of the mouth operation was done. The surgery went well with the skin grafts all taking to the new site, when they mention skin grafts it sounds scary but its ok on the whole, you will get a bit of swelling which is to be expected like any surgery. My cancer came back three times but thankfully they got on my last operation and have been cancer free for nearly 11years now.  I hope this helps you overcome your worries and concerns, if not please repost if you need more help. Best wishes, take care.
