Hi Jane
I had chemotherapy and radiotherapy. There are several types of chemotherapy that might be used.
I had 4 cycles of cisplatin by IV at hospital, three weeks apart. Each cisplatin chemotherapy session took 6 hours. Plus at the same time I had capecitabine chemo tablets, two in the morning, two in the evening for 12 weeks. On the day of the 3rd cisplatin by IV at hospital, I started having radiotherapy as well, every weekday for 5 weeks, 25 sessions in total.
I changed all my body products to Simple (shampoo, shower gel, moisturiser), sensitive toothpaste, a soft manual toothbrush, E45 lotion to put on the skin area after each radiotherapy session - don't put it on before the session - Moogoo Skin Milk Udder Cream for soles of feet when all the skin peels off.
It will most likely become harder to swallow as radiotherapy sessions continue and the oesophagus becomes more inflamed and this continues for a couple of weeks afterwards. Soft blended foods might be needed for a while.
I hope everything goes well for your husband. If you have any more questions please ask.
Take care,
Amanda
