11 months post esophagectomy and feeling good. Eating is a different thing for me now. I have a cough when eating especially when foods are dry. Small bites and water while swallowing seems to help. I do not really like eating in public due to the cough.

  • Congratulations I am 11 months post op and doing well !! Sorry to hear about your cough must be really annoying ! When do you have your next visit to your consultant I am seen every 6 months so maybe mention it then or call your GI nurse !

  • Hello I am glad to see you seem to be keeping well since your surgery. My mother is now 7 weeks post surgery and is having a lot of pain in her coccyx bone due to sleeping sitting up. She has a special cushion she uses when sitting during the day but it is too hard for the bed at night. Did you experience this pain also and if so would you have any tips that could help relieve some of the pain and discomfort?

    Thank you,

    Karen

  • Hi Karen yes unfortunately having to sleep sitting up does make my back and coccyx suffer ! I am lucky that I have a mechanical bed with a gel mattress which I am truly grateful for !!
maybe a gel pad might help ? I normally wake up at about five o’clock and as most of my food has been digested I risk lying flat for a couple of hour to stretch my back   ! Another thought I’ve just had is putting a pillow under her knees might help ! Sorry I couldn’t be more help ! Wish your mom well for me it’s a bit of a journey Tricia x

  • Hi Tricia thank you so much for the reply it’s great to hear you are doing so well gives a lot of hope when you are looking at someone so sick. We are going to look into a good mattress topper perhaps this will help. She is in for another endoscopy beginning of May where they will possibly be doing another stretch. At the moment even if she lays on her side for a minute or two it results in reflux,

    thanks again,

    Karen xxx

  • Yes sometimes in my sleep when I’ve slipped down a bit without thinking I roll on my side and that’s when I get reflux ! I sometimes take gavascon before I go to sleep and as do many people on this group the advance one is the best !! But it’s all a learning curve she’s so lucky to have you sending love to you both xx

  • Sounds very similar to my mam thanks again xxx
