Illness during Chemo

Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone has any experience of being ill during chemo. My mum is undergoing CAPOX chemo and started her second round yesterday morning. My dad now has the feeling that he’s starting to get a cold. They can sleep in separate rooms etc. but I’m really panicking about it.

Mum has been coping so well with the chemo (able to eat pretty normally after first treatment, getting out and about, power walking on treadmill etc.) she’s a totally different woman to the one who could barely eat and was given pain relief and sedative through a syringe driver back in November, she’s almost feeling better than ever now! I’m worried that catching a cold would make her really unwell. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Thank you x

  • Please don't worry too much about this. Take the necessary precautions and monitor your mum's temperature in case she gets a fever, if her temperature goes high phone the chemo hotline immediately for advice. People with cancer/on chemo still catch colds and get through it OK, what you're looking out for are signs of infection.
