Eating with a stent meal ideas?

My parent is stage 4 and terminal. They have just had a stent fitted and I'm struggling to think of meal ideas to tempt them. They are meant to be on a soft diet, but some of the advice we have been given by the dietician, doctor and the booklet they gave us is really conflicting!

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your parent's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. • Hello Rosebud

Im sorry to hear about your dad.

We've been here with stage 4, the stent & trying to think what to make for dad. It can be a challenge. We made lots of home made soups for him adding extra cream & olive oil for calories. We bought the silicone freezer trays that are cubed so we could batch cook & freeze. This allowed us to offer variety each day. Dad loved cheese straws for dipping too.
Well cooked pasta /macaroni cheese, fish in parsley sauce was ok. Mash potato was ok but it had to be made with milk & butter so not clumpy, smoother & creamier than you might normally make it. Again, add a bit of cream to it, extra calories. Pasta bakes (different sauces & well cooked, blended veg) cauliflower cheese. Rice pudding, custard, sponge puddings with lots of custard. Banana.
Biscuits dunked in tea (rich tea fingers, time out, custard creams) fruit smoothies with added protein powder but steered away from creatine based as read this isnt good for cancer. Mixing fortisip (plain) with ice cream so its like a paste.
Meat but blended & mixed with plenty of gravy.

Off the top of my head thats all I can think of but Ill look back over the meal plan I did for dad & come back & add a bit more.

Sending hugs at this difficult time x

    1. Thank you so much Teacup! That is amazing. If you could share a meal plan if available that would be great. I'm just feel really cautious that I'm giving him the wrong things as some things, and if you look online diet sheets from others hospitals, it's conflicting as some day they can have bread and crackers with pate. Did you even give things like skinless sausages? Dad loves him meat, sausages, steak and mushrooms all the things that are a no,no but have read he can have skinless sausages.
  • P.s what did your dad dip the cheese straws in just normal dips like hummus? Dad really fancies dairylea but he's not allowed crackers apparently Pensive

  • Dad dipped them in hummous (theres different flavours) but also dipped them in his soup... tomato, broccoli & stilton, cauliflower with leek & brocolli. Dipped them in philidelphia cheese spread too xx

  • It can be hard Heart️

Dad only ever had the sausage meat xx

  • Thank you, it really is. He loves his food and so it's really getting him down. I wish they could give him a more personalised diet sheet. I have just ordered stage 4 meals from Wiltshire farm but not sure he will like them xx

  • If you wanted to drop me a message with your email I'll share the meal plan with you I did for dad. Meantime breakfast you might consider overnight oats, poached egg (for the yolks) or scrambled with avocado. Boiled egg with sliced avocado soldiers (or cheese straws) xx

  • The food side of things can be as much physiological as it is psychological I think. Its a huge adjustment along with everything else. We found the mass of information hard to navigate. You would think a personalised diet sheet would be available with more by way of suggestions. We found this not to be the case unfortunately x
