Hi, could anyone give me some good ideas on foods to eat. My very good friend is now struggling with certain foods getting stuck. I want to ensure he is eating well but things he can tolerate. Thank you

  • Hi Butterfly 77 welcome to the forum.. I'm imagining that it may be more to do with the consistency of foods. Maybe soft food that needs little chewing or ice cream custard, yoghurt, milk shakes etc. Does he have particular tastes in food.

  • Thank you some good tips.

  • My favourite food during the time when I couldn't eat solids was those pre-baked potatoes. 5 Minutes in the microwaves, add cheese and when melted mix in. Then just eat the insides and throw away the skins. It made a welcome change from all the jely, ice cream, custard and chocolate.

  • Some things that were on my menu when having swallowing problems were;

    1. cheesy soft scrambled eggs
    2. blended soups
    3. milkshakes made with full fat milk, bananas,l & double cream/ice cream
    4. sloppy cottage pie
    5. spaghetti bolognese
    6. creamed potatoes (plenty of milk & butter)
    7. M&S custard

    Important thing is plenty of calories to keep weight on for whatever treatment he undergoes. Hope this helps. CB

  • I've rediscovered tinned soup for at least one meal per day. I usually add grated cheese (parmesan or cheddar) and put buttered toast into the bowl before adding the soup. Just before I've finished warming it up I crack an egg into it too - all just ways of getting extra calories in there.

  • Thank you Matt that sounds like a good idea Blush

  • All of those things went down well for my husband. It was a very welcome revelation for him that spag bol could still be enjoyed with no food getting stuck and subsequent self-induced regurgitation.
