Does anyone else have problems with the Hickman line I have two fitted now both have fell out the first one nearly a week after first session of chemo I got an infection in and when in hospital it fell out

The second one I was on my back to the hospital when the dressing stuck to my shirt and I looked the cuff had been pulled out I by the time I got to the hospital the whole line was out

Just wondered if this happens a lot

  • Hi Peter99

Sorry for the delay in answering your post, I had hoped that someone who has some experience of this would answer you, so I am going to bump this post up again just in case it has been missed.

I wasn't sure that Hickman lines were still being used, or whether your Hickman line is like a Picc line or a Portacath?

My husband used to have a Picc line which he had to be very careful with, but it never came out more than a couple of millimetres

  • Third line is now in place fingers crossed it stays there for what should be the last two cycles of chemo and apart from problems with the line the chemo was not the nightmare I thought it would be.just feel completely drained after it

  • I am glad to read that the chemo is not as bad as you had imagined... I wish you every success with it
