Hi guys n gals

I have recently been diagnosed with this horrible disease. I'm told it's spread to my hip plus my spine. The spinal tumour was surgically removed in December which has affected my legs and balance. But legs are slowly improving.

My question is I had a single radiotherapy session 2 weeks ago with a follow up in 1 weeks time. Why only a single session? When I asked the technician I was told that the technology has improved and the dosage increased. They said I had effectively had 2 weeks worth in one go.

All the stories I have seen so far talk about weeks of radiotherapy. Anyone else heard of this single session? I'm confused

  • Hi NT4700 welcome to the forum and sorry to hear what is happening  for you.

Radiotherapy is usually given in fractions and don't ask me what that means exactly  because I am not completely sure. However, what I do know is that the days of multiple sessions of Radiotherapy seem to be numbered, and the option instead is to give bigger doses over  a much shorter period of time. So what the technician has said is completely correct and it will save you having  to drive daily for multiple sessions which is much better for you.

Hope that's useful for you with your query.

Thanks so much. This has all been a major upset in my life. I'm still coming to terms with everything.

  • Hi NT4700 be kind to yourself and take a day at a time. None of this is easy and Im not sure that you ever come to terms with it all but you do find a way through it all and you will as well, just take your time and take a bit at a time .

  • Hello NT4700

Thank you for reaching out here and sharing part of your journey, it can be really difficult to write your first post.

I am unable to comment at all on the radiotherapy so I am really pleased to read that Granny59 was able to offer some thoughts here Slight smile

I do hope that you are feeling ok after the treatment and I hope also that you get some positive news when you go for your follow up.

    Good Luck
