I was diagnosed with stage 3 adenocarcinoma Jan 21st and after all the tests, scans bloods a transfusion for anaemia and meetings with the team  I had just about come to terms with the treatment plan. ie 4 cycles of chemo, Ivor Lewis then post op chemo except for one niggle. On one of the scans they had seen a “shadow” in my pelvis which was not in the G I remit so therefore required referral to Gynae clinic.
Fast forward to today at Gynae clinic, I was seen by a registrar who said it required intervention but given my history it would probably be a few months after recovery from my forthcoming op. WHAT are you serious, I ask, so you’re proposing more surgery after an Ivor Lewis ?
Just remind me what you’re having done he asks?  Then proceeds to Google it and says Oh yes it is quite major isn’t it.
I asked, couldn’t I have this addressed in theatre at the same time.
MmmThinking perhaps that’s possible, I’m not sure but let’s take some bloods today for cancer markers.
won’t they be up anyway because of my cancer diagnosis? I ask

Probably but we’ll do them anyway. We’ll be in touch.

Grrrrrrrr, I was so angry, but thank goodness for specialist nurses. I rang mine, who said not to worry, she was taking all of my concerns to the MDT meeting tomorrow and of course dual surgery was possible.

Bless you your head is full of worry and stress as it is and doesn’t need doctors talking to you that are not up to speed , I am sure your GI team will help you so much and get you sorted as the aim of it all is to get the best survival rate as possible so no point getting you through all this only to have other concerns , the surgery is Major and takes some getting through but it is well worth it , take care and good luck x
