My husband has oesophageal cancer which has spread into his liver and is classed as non-curative.  He is due to start chemo on 19th February but we’re both so scared about how painful his reactions will be - has anyone been through it?  It’s been so quick and he’s only been given 4-8 months without it.

  • Sorry to hear about your situation. I am just going through chemotherapy and all I can say is everybody reacts differently. Although there can be lots of side effects, the teams are really good at looking after these and you. Dont worry too much or read horror stories about worst cases. I know it a really hard time but just make the most of each special day.  I have had 4 lots of chemotherapy now and only problems were loose movement below, slight loss of taste and slight fatigue. My thoughts are with you

  • Hello Teddybearsan

I hope that you do not mind me checking in with you to ask how your husbands treatment went last week?

I know how nervous you both were, and I hope that the experience was more positive in terms of expectations.

    Take care

Thanks for asking - unfortunately, he had he chemo on Friday and ended up in hospital from Saturday afternoon with severe sickness, unable to even keep sips of water down.  He has only just been sent home, so hopefully, things will be better from now on. His consultant has said he should continue with his chemo, so fingers crossed. It was a very scary experience for both of us.

  • Sorry to hear that it was a scary time (((Hugs))) and that your Husband ended up in hospital, but pleased to know that he is home now.

I hope that he will continue his treatment, it is difficult to be positive when the experience has been so difficult, but I recall that both of you were very concerned initially mainly because of the unknown, the anxiety of what would happen and how he would feel.

My husband tries meditation before his treatment, he visualises the chemo coursing through his veins, feeding healing fluid into him, he tries to visualise himself well. I know this is not for everyone but maybe your husband can try something similar next time and see if it helps his experience in anyway.

I really hope things improve for you both soon.

    Sending Strength
