After radiotherapy how long did it take your oesophagus to return to normal and allow fruit and tomatoes and other acidic things like ketchup and salad cream - I am still having issues - almost 3 months after radiotherapy has finished Oct 20th 2020
thanks in advance
Hi, just had a look when I had my radiotherapy, and it was in September, prob like yourself things where starting to not go down so easy? So have 5 x blasts and after two or three weeks things where back to pre radiotherapy, sometimes I feel like some stuff doesn’t go down as well as others but also think you get a bit paranoid I know I do but just crack on really, hope this helps and anything else please ask as it sounds like where in the same boat!
take it easy.
Hello,
Can I ask how soon after radiotherapy you were able to deal with general foods - apart from the things mentioned in your post.
My mum hasn’t eaten in so long now. She finished 5x radiotherapy sessions 9 days ago. We are desperate for her to be able to eat something other than tiny amounts of mushed up food. We were told 8-10 days she would suddenly feel hungry and able to eat again.
Thanks
Radiotherapy keeps working for about 3 or 4 weeks after last dose. I had last radiotherapy Oct 20th was exhausted and spent most of my time in bed Nov and December - I had a stomach rig so fed through that. I had a medicine that helped soothed the oesophagus as it will be red raw which helped but it was a struggle swallowing food. Soups and smoothies are the way forward. Also if your Mum is up to it I have had Oxygen treatment at 24ft pressure (HBOT) at the local MSAction centre mine is Walthamstow since Jan 2021 - MSAction centres are dotted around the UK - the Israeli Heath Ministry made it legal in 1986 to help with radiotherapy treatment - NHS have centres at Whipps Cross and Nine Wells Dundee and others - my GP had no clue neither did my oncologist - it is fantastic and my oncologist supported me and was amazed at the results - brains behind it is Prof Philip James Nine Wells Hospital Dundee - Oxygen and the Brain best book ever - check out review Amazon.com he is the man behind the MSAction centres 38 years ago - I had Stage 3 cancer and it looks like I no longer have disease in the tumour region - its Feb 2021 and I have been eating well since I started the Oxygen treatment Jan 2021 - its a journey BUT your Mum will get better - best wishes to you both
John
Thanks for that have not logged in for 27 days and have since had Oxygen treatment at the MSAction Centre and now eating everything including fish and chips and ketchup - although it is back to healthy eating next week - my Oncologist was AMAZED after my Endoscopy and Biopsy last week - he had not seen a recovery like it - Oxygen is the unique drug that we need to live every minute of the day - it is required for healing period little oxygen your cut will take ages to heal - so it sort of makes sense - check out Prof Philip James work on it - my GP had no clue - I will keep track on progress but touch wood I will be out on the golf course again soon
best wishes
Hello.
Thank you for your response and congratulations on your health and success with the treatment ! I haven’t heard of the oxygen treatment you mentioned but I’m certainly going to look into it. I think we tend to go along with the doctors and not research other options ourselves so thanks for that.
I have heard from my mum only minutes ago and she feels very different this morning. She has managed to eat some toast which is a huge milestone for her so fingers crossed then tumour is shrinking and will continue to do so.
Thanks once more
Vicky
Great to hear that Vicky - Nutrition is so important for your immune system - it all starts with oxygen - we are happy when the weather is high pressure and slightly sadder when its low pressure - remember that the Doctor only knows so much and we need to keep learning ourselves - it might be a bit easier for me as I started out studying Dentistry and have a degree in Physiology but that is 40 years ago and medical knowledge changes constantly - Macmillian also have info on HBOT
good luck with it all
