My husband has been diagnosed with T3 N2 M0 for his oesophageal cancer. He was originally on the surgery plan, but the plan changed and is now 6 cycles of chemo followed by herceptin treatment only.
What is herceptin? How will this help?
I feel that we’ve been dismissed a little due to covid. None of this has been explained and I have had to guess most of it, asking the questions of the specialist nurse as none of it has been explained to my husband.
is being on herceptin good thing?
Grateful for any advise.
Hi
Although I don't have any experience with Herceptin I noticed that your post had gone unanswered.
If you type 'Herceptin' into the search bar in this group you'll find quite a few posts which mention this drug. You could have a read through them and respond to any of the posters who you want to ask more questions of.

Hi Bree. I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer back in Feb with T3 N3 M1. I've just completed my 4th cycle of chemo with Herceptin, Cisplatin and Capecitabine. I've just had the results of a recent scan which showed that my tumour has shrunk almost to nothing. I reckon its the Herceptin that has smashed my cancer. Herceptin targets the HER2 proteins on the cancer cells and makes them visible to your own immune system. Only about 20% of people are HER2 positive and Herceptin can only be used for HER2 positive. I'm very thankful that I am on Herceptin.
Hi
thank you so much for this. Ted has just finished his 4th cycle of the same combination as you. He starts his 5th on Thursday, so fingers crossed we’ll be getting the same feed back as you, though his tumour was bigger at diagnosis (in February too).
Keep positive ZillyBov and thank you for replying x
Hello Bree306
i was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer early June 2019. I had 5 cycles of CAPOX, missed out on the sixth due to neuropathy. The scan after chemo was very good and they said they could put me on Herceptin (immunotherapy) which I started in January. Scan in March was not good, Herceptin not doing the job. I am now back on a different chemo cycle and last scan was very positive so at least I am heading in the right direction again. I hope Herceptin does the job for your husband.
