Hi guys my husband will start chemo tomorrow for oesophageal cancer and I'm looking for a bit of advice on how he might feel the next few days as well as what food people find easier to eat. He has started complaining about things sticking when eating and feeling sick at times. Does anyone have any tips on what to feed him that will go down easy particularly after his radiotherapy in 2 weeks as we where told some people need a feeding tube if they can't tolerate food and fluids due to the burning of the oesophagus. Thanks for any information you can give me.
Simone,
Endure the side-effects-- complete the regimen.
Look forward to ability to swallow normally again-- perhaps after 10 sessions of radiation.
Thanks for that fingers crossed it will work out
Hi
I could not even swallow liquid after chemoradiation and was fed entirely by tube.
However, I underwent a series of oesophageal stretches which involved an endoscopy every 3 weeks for months.
Gruelling but worth it! I can swallow most food now with a few exceptions and no tube.
You have made wonderful progress-- I wish you continued improvement.
(My experience with chemo/rad for my oesopphagus cancer was totally different, but I, too, made progress, Every cancer case is unique.)
Savor every swallow on the road to health and happiness.
Oh and I will recommend Wiltshire Foods who do a good selection of easy to eat meals, even some special pureed meals and deliver free. I found them useful and their puddings such as crumbles are scrumptious even when your appetite is poor during treatment.
Hello Sim10
Best advice I ever had and my Wife did for me was to buy a handblender. This meant i could have whatever the rest of the family were having and whatever i fancied. Sunday roast or a curry :)
I'm just passed 3 yrs since diagnosis at T3N2M0....in September i will be 3 years post op. My Chemo was 2 lots of ECX pre and post op.
Full journey can be found on my blog here.
Best wishes to your hubby on his journey
