Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer in January with a small secondary on his liver.. He had one course of chemo, which shrunk the liver tumour. He then just continued on Herceptin which was keeping the oesophageal tumour same. He was still able to eat soft or small food slowly, and had put weight on. He was feeling quite well until about 5 weeks ago. He had his Herceptin, and then he had what he thought was a cold and cough. It got worse and he was told it was a chest infection and was given antibiotics. After 3 weeks he had to hospital as he couldn’t breath. He had fluid round his lungs. He had them drained and was on oxygen, he was picking up, but now he just doesn’t seem to be improving. He had the drain out yesterday, but he’s just not really eating. (Hospital food is not good for someone with eating problems) he is managing a small complan. He still reliant on quite high oxygen.

Anyone here had similar? I’m just worried.

  • HI and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm really sorry to hear how poorly your dad has been recently. It must be a very worrying time for you all.

I didn't have this type of cancer but I noticed that your post hadn't had any responses. This could be because no one else has experienced the same thing as your dad or simply that the right person hasn't seen your post yet.

By replying to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the page where, hopefully, it'll be seen by someone with the experience you need.

I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad. My mum last week was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer which has spread to her bones. It’s just not fair. Thinking of you x

  • I'm so sorry to hear that and can I offer my sincere condolences.
