Hi A quick overview, my husband was diagnosed in June after gp referral following difficulty swallowing for few months. Total shock obviously. Had scans and laparoscopy, no mets, one/two lymph involved. Currently he has now finished 4th FLOT chemo last monday. Had a CT scan done last fri. We expected his nurse to be in touch today but nothing yet. Im a nervous wreck, is no news good news ie chemo has reduced tumour ready for surgery. If it hasn't then what? We are hoping/expecting husband to have surgery oesophago-gastronomy in next few weeks. No happy with lack of communication
Hiya louise
I know how you feel , my dad had the same cancer in 2017, like your hubby he had chemo prior to surgery and we were all very anxious about if the chemo had worked ect ? I remember my dads nurse advising that even if the cancer had nit shrunk he would still be a candidate for surgery.
You could always ring your husbands nurse , I done all the running about for my dad and wanted answers. I'm sure they wont mind you ringing as at the end of the day you will all be anxious and need some reassurance.
I'm sure the surgery will go ahead as planned
Take care
Hope ,
It’s not good that you and your husband find yourselves on this horrible road, but you should be optimistic. Minimal node involvement and no mets. So why shouldn’t he have surgery?
Waiting for news IS gruelling, However, you should believe that he will have surgery and will make a good recovery and be cancer free in a few months time. In six or eight months you’ll be taking a wonderful holiday together somewhere warm, getting used to a new normality of eating small high calorie meals. A cruise would be good where food is always available, lots of relaxation, entertainment on tap, things to make you laugh...
It might be a bit soon to book that dream holiday but you can start believing that it will happen. Positivity will help him cope with the surgery and speed his recovery.
Dont be afraid to chase what you have been told will happen. Between you and your husband you are the best monitors of action plan as you understand it. You were expecting a call, so chase it up.
I hope you soon get the news that you are hoping/believing will be good news.
Counting the days, making every day count.
Brent
Hi Louise, what staging was your husband given? I was diagnosed as T3 N2 M0 staging which means it had spread to surrounding lymph nodes (N2). I didn't have any treatment before the surgery, through choice and have just celebrated 3 years clear since surgery on the 3rd October 2016. So try not to worry yourself too much. Good luck and kind regards Frank.
Hi phew we are so pleased. The nurse called so hour ago. They are pleased with ct results, the tumour has shrunk. And they gave us an appointment this thurs to see the surgeon. My husband still has the last chemo gking through him so they wont operate for about 6 weeks!!! Feel we can move forward. Thanks all x
Hi Frank.
His staging is a T3 N1 M0. They also mentioned it being a grade 3 poorly differentiated which was a concern which i think maybe meant he had the FLOT chemo which is gruelling.
Louise
god bless & speedy recovery...
I have the same, only found out last week, I have MRI booked for Friday 11th & meet the specialist team on Wednesday 16th to understand the biopsy & scan results. totally freaking out!!!
Good luck to you. It's good you have dates for everything. We did wait on that a bit in the first few weeks. It's odd getting results from a nurse over the phone but saves time re getting appointments. Just focus on your dates, don't google and look after yourself x
Hi good luck with MRI and getting all the information regarding plan of action it’s a horrible time for you and your family but hopefully you will have surgery and have it removed I am 8 months post op and so grateful to the team for getting me through it ,if I can help let me know
