Oesophageal cancer

My brother has just received a diagnosis of oesophageal cancer (large cell aggressive?) that has already invaded his liver. They have told him it’s palliative care only with 4 to 6 months survival. He will receive chemotherapy to shrink the tumour so his swallowing is easier.

He only developed symptoms, with difficulty swallowing only about 6 weeks ago. He is a young 60ish , has never smoked, drinks a little and is very fit. So I’m very shocked and trying to come to terms with his condition.

I would appreciate any information and advise I can pass on to him and his family especially if there may be more he could do or ask for to improve his odds.

My heart goes out to your brother, you and your family , I am currently undergoing treatment and was completely shell-shocked when diagnosed.. As well as conventional treatment, I have found complementary therapies very helpful. I have also found the Penny Broch centre most helpful, you can contact them on line or by phone. They offer free courses on 'Living Well with cancer' and also offer help and advice to family and friends. They offer lots of advice on diet exercise. I also found it helpful to look for really positive personal experiences of people living with cancer. As wonderful as medicine is and our medics are, it tends to focus on symptoms and statistics ( I initially became overwhelmed by all the medical information provided by Dr Google) hence it was important for me to research different approaches to cancer as well as the medical approach , It sounds to me that your brothers healthy lifestyle and loving family will support his journey. I also found a book called 'The Cancer Whisperer; by Sophie Sabbage both encouraging and inspiring. Fondest regards x
