Hi all.

Well ..chemo  is complete.  It's not the easiest of journeys but I'm out the other side and feel surprisingly healthy. I went from struggling to sip water ..due to the tumour obstruction in my oesophagus..getting a NG tube and overnight feeds for 12 weeks to now being able to eat anything... I'm making the most of eating this week as surgery will bring me back down to earth with a bump. I'll be back at stage 1 again ..my taste buds are buzzing  just now and I never really realised how much we take eating for granted lol.

I must admit I have a bit of the Heebie jeebies (fear) for the up and coming surgery.  I've heard so many positive outcomes here and I  have to put my trust in my surgeon and the NHS and so far they have excelled !!.

I would appreciate any hints and tips for recovery from ivor lewis procedure.  How did you fill your day in hospital? I've been  told I could be in around 2 weeks provided there are no complications

How long was it before you got to eat soft food.

Thank you all so far for the support on here ....its good to talk to those who completely understand  and empathize with even the silly things we worry about

Frances

You (and everyone else Stuck out tongue winking eye) have already offered me so much encouragement, support and advice as I start my own journey; for that please accept my most sincere thanks.

    Hi Frances,

Just wanted to pass on my very best wishes for you for Thursday, though it does sound like you have got this boxed off with your positive attitude, which is great.

The point about the tubes is correct , I had my Op at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool in July 2016 and when  my wife and three children (16,17 & 18 at the time) came to visit me in ICU it was a bit of a shock for them to see, particularly my son who decided then that he'd subsequently wait for dad to get home  before renewing acquaintances...

I was in hospital for eight days in total and each day a different tube would be taken out and gradual progress made in terms of what I could eat and how I could move about.

Fast forward just over three years and I've successfully  undergone 3 x annual checks each August and feel fitter in my adult life than ever before...I also got the t-shirt but was able to choose M size as opposed to XL :) as I have consciously tried to keep the weight off ! Just back from a Med Cruise and looking forward to a week in Turkey in October...life is good!

    All the very best,

    Kev.

    Thank you so much kev

My goal is to get back to my job ....yes I'm one of those lucky people who enjoys work . I've been nursing 39 years !...and more importantly my holidays. I have unfortunately had to postpone this years cruise in November going from dubai round UAE then on to Mumbai and Goa. Take not postpone not cancel . I plan to take it next year !! Ideally  I'd also like a wee week in tenerife  in jan/Feb but that will depend on how much post op chemo is required.

Once my holidays are happening again I'll know I've "made it"
