4 x Flot and no shrinkage - Normal?

Hello all

My friend has recently had 4 x FLOT over 8 weeks

Had scan today to say it has not spread but the tumour had not reduced at all.

Is this a bad sign?

They are indicating they are still looking at surgery to remove but I wondered if this meant that the body has not responded well to chemo?

Could the cancer be dead and still be the same size?

did you all have tumour reduction post flot?

thank you for your help

  • Hi sunflowers98,

When I had my surgery in February the pathology report on the tumour they removed indicated that it was dead tissue and had effectively been killed by my pre-operative FLOT so, although my chemo must also have reduced the size of the tumour as my swallowing improved, I suppose it is possible that it could be killed off without necessarily a reduction. The fact that it has not spread and they are still anticipating surgery are both good signs. Was this a CT or a PET scan that your friend had? The latter is a more accurate indicator. Best wishes, CB

  • The most important thing to remember is that it hasn't got worse or mestasised. Everyone has different responses to chemotherapy so I wouldn't be too worried. If they're saying they will still operate that's the most important thing.
