Hi I am due to start 15 treatment of radium on Wednesday 26th June. I know this is a question I should have asked Dr's, but only just thought of it and won't see any Dr now before treatment. I know that you cannot have radium treatment in the same place twice, so does anyone know if you can still have stem cell treatment further down the line once you have had radium. Radium treatment I will be receiving will be in lower spine area, but no NHL in spinal column only the spinal bone.
The usual its now 12.50 am and my mind is working overtime, doing the maths and coming up with stupid numbers, you know it but cannot stop it happening. My poor husband I feel he bears the brunt of all my questions and the soul could not possibly have the answers.

Good morning llene , interesting question that often comes at silly-o’clock.
When you say Radium treatment you specifically mean Radium not Radiotherapy as these treatments are rather different.
I have never had Radium but have had 45 sessions of Radiotherapy with repeated sessions on the same areas (within set exposure limits) and have had two Stem Cell Transplants with cells from my brother.
As Stem Cell Transplant is a process that kills the immune system and regrows it I would think that your treatment would not stop going into Stem Cell Transplant - but we are not medically trained ;)
Why not put a question to our ‘Ask an Expert’ section where you will find Jane our Stem Cell Specialist Nurse but please allow 2 working days to get a reply.
Or just phone your contact nurse on Monday and ask your question.
Hi Highlander. Yeah I was meaning Radiotherapy. Thank you for information on your treatments and option of other avenues to explore.

Hi again, we have had a few folks with FL go through Stem Cell Transplant and are doing well. You can see my story with my CTCL by hitting Thehighlander. 40 of my 45 sessions of Radiotherapy were actually part of my Stem Cell Transplant.
