Day 1 .. went well, with no hiccups.. given a shed load of drugs, so trying to make some sort of plan to get it all in order.

round 2 tomorrow..

  • start of 2nd 'dip week', a few days of 'bone ache' in upper body from injection and fatigue are the major things ATM.. but all things considered, my wife is doing really well. nothing paracetamol and rest can't take care of.. certainly looking better today.

  • Hi Liz

I was on G-CSF Injections for 4-5 days after my 6 cycles of R-EPOCH and daily for 4 months following my second Stem Cell Transplant.

These injections are designed to ‘wake up’ your bone marrow but unfortunately there are side effects like bad bone (my nurse called it bone marrow birthing pains) and also excessive histamine production.

I was prescribed Antihistamine like Piriton or Clarityn by my teams as this bizarrely stopped most of the pain developing (reducing histamine production). These were taken as were further paracetamol as per the dose instructions (if required) worth talking with your team about this as not a lot of hospitals do this.

  • bad day today.. 01.30 wife wakes me up.. heart pounding, pains in chest.. spent all day at the hospital doings tests and checks... everything ok, so put down to muscular chest pains.. I think it was the final injection that she forgot to do in the morning so did late afternoon.. a mystery, and very scary for her, but all good now.

  •  I just wanted to let you know that I shaved my wife's head a few weeks back as her hair had started to fall out, to raise money for the Leicester Royal Infirmary Oncology Dept.. well, she managed to raise £520.. Fair play to her for turning this into a positive..

  • coming to the end of week 1 of the 3rd cycle.. everything going well apart from chest pains again.. it has to be the injections..so paracetamol and off for a snooze...hopefully wake up feeling better.. but all things considered, she is doing incredibly well.. just hoping things continue well throughout the last 3 cycles.

oh, and waiting for a scan appointment to see how things are progressing.
