I am currently halfway way through cycle 3 and due to start IVAC next. Does anyone have ant experience/tips on how to get through this and how long it usually lasts? Find it difficult to discuss with professionals

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.

I don’t have DLBCL but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

I had a completely different treatment but lets see if any member has had the same treatment. Looking at the IVAC information it's not clear as to how long each treatment will be....... my main chemo lasted 120hrs so this was 5 nights/6 days in hospital on my 2 IV pumps 24/7 for my 6 cycles........ so anything shorter than this will be a bonus.

Do you have a contact number of a Cancer Nurse Specialist - this is the type of information I would often ask them rather than getting any clear information from my consultants.

At times getting clear information is challenging - this link Questions to ask your medical team about Lymphoma can help you set up a list of top questions you are looking to get answers for.

EDIT - I just found THIS information.

  • Thank you The Highlander. Really helpful.  I like s plan so trying to work out how many days this cycle will last.

  • If you have a contact number do call it as it’s the simplest way of finding out.

  • The information on the link suggests each treatment is done over 6-7 days but it dies not say that it’s 24/7 so is it out-patient?……. I had to be in-patient as my treatment was 24/7

  • That is something else I will have to ask. I would love for it to be out patient as I'm really struggling after having Infections after my first two cycles and being in for long periods and of course isolation due to covid. But I thinking its wishful thinking on my part, unfortunately.  Thanks again for your reply.
